Excellent Examples Still Bring All The Money
While some markets are starting to soften, this sale proves that the 914-6 market remains strong, especially for very solid #1 and #2 cars.
Finished in Tangerine over Black leatherette, this 1970 914-6 sold for $119,146 on Bring a Trailer yesterday with 34,000 miles shown and some tasteful modifications to aid in driving enjoyment. The car was an older restoration performed by marque specialist Auto Atlanta in the ’90s. Knowing their work, this car was most likely a Concours winner at one time.
Although we haven’t had a $100k+ sale of a 914-6 at an online auction for quite some time, this car was deserving of the price paid. Had the car been fresh out of restoration, I wouldn’t have been surprised for it to fetch close to a market high of $150,000.
After 20 years and some miles, a few blemishes are to be expected. Considering the age since restoration, the car was in great condition and well cared for with plenty of receipts showing continuous upkeep.
The seller only put roughly 1,500 miles on the car but no mention of when they purchased it. If those were 1,500 miles over 10 years, I’d say well-sold. But if recently acquired, maybe not so. Well-bought on the buyer’s end as there is only upside on a car of this caliber.
