Fair Deal For a 3.3 Turbo

Five years ago this 1987 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe crossed the block on Bring a Trailer with 40,274 miles and sold for $95,000. At the time, the average sales price was right around $100,000 and the mileage at which the cars dropped below was about 40,000 miles.

Fast forward 5 years and 3,000 miles, and our Spotlight car is back up for sale after being enjoyed quite sparingly by the seller. Back in 2018, nobody saw this market coming though, so it’s not as if they purchased it to flip and make a quick buck. Maybe they thought there would be some appreciation, but I’m sure they were very happy when the car hammed down yesterday for $131,000.

While we have seen some examples with similar mileage sell for over $150,000 and one example with 42,000 miles fetch over $200k, those sales were earlier in the year prior to the market softening a tad. Also, although our car comes with a thick file folder filled with receipts, the rear quarter panels and front hood have been refinished and the body has a couple of small dings.

That being said, both buyer and seller can be happy here as this was a fair price for a car of this condition, with this mileage, in this market, ready to be enjoyed. What’s even better is that this is the buyer’s first Porsche. Welcome to the club.
