Flashback Friday: A $600,000 Carrera GT
Coulda, shoulda, woulda… lots of Porsches fit into this category of cars we wish we bought years ago that are worth multiples of what we could have purchased them for years ago, but none so much as Porsche’s naughties icon, the Carrera GT.
Only three years ago this 2005 Carrera GT sold on PCARMARKET (with a reserve) for $670,000. Sub 10,000 miles, luggage, factory paint, recent major service, no stories. Earlier this year you would have put a 1 in front of that 670. What happened?
Well, in early 2021 collectors finally woke up to the fact that the Carrera GT is a legitimate blue-chip youngtimer collectible that checks a lot of boxes. Low production numbers? Check. Motorsports heritage? Check. Driving experience never to be replicated again? Check. Do we wish we had a time machine so we can go back and buy this car? Triple check.
So five years from now are we going to wish we had a time machine again? Only time will tell.
