GT3 RS 4.Uh-Oh
When I said “thanks to sellers with reasonable reserves” yesterday I didn’t think it would take less than 24 hours for me to eat my words. Yet here we are. In recent months, here in the US, we haven’t seen a 4.0 RS cross the auction block with the last car sold being an auction record 1,800-mile example finished in Black at Broad Arrow’s Monterey auction that hammered down for $885,000. With that as the most recent comp, it seems that the seller of this 2011 GT3 RS 4.0 thought that their car was worth the same.
Yes, our Spotlight car had ultra-low miles at just 202. A bit lower than the world-record car. But, there are plenty of low-mileage RS 4.0s out there, especially ones finished in the standard color of White. Out of the 600 units produced, only 36 were painted Black, making color a much more important factor when considering a 4.0 than the numerous low mileage cars.
If we really wanted to put a number on this car, we’d look at where other sub-1,000-mile cars have sold in the last year. In July of 2022 a 965-mile example sold for $706,000 and before that, a 462-mile example was bid to $715,000 without finding a buyer. So with a final bid of $785,250, our bidder was right on the money, if not a little heavy, for a 200-mile car. I mean what’s the difference between 200, 400, and 900 anyway?
The seller has the car listed in PCARMARKETS Deal Tank for, you guessed it, $885,000. But sit there it will. Could this car be worth that much at some point? Probably in the next rally. But by then we will see $1m out of a low-mileage Black example or better yet, one of the rare PTS cars.
