GT4s Remain Steady Due to Allocation and Supply Chain Issues
The GT4 market remains steady with the sale of this latest 718 Cayman GT4. Finished in Python Green with Black Leather and Race-Tex, our Spotlight car features a PDK transmission, PCCB Brakes, Full Bucket Seats, BOSE, a host of yellow accents in the interior, and an aftermarket Akrapovic exhaust. With just shy of 1,300 miles, the car sold for $270 below its MSRP at $130,000 yesterday on Bring a Trailer.
While most 2021/2022 models aside from GT 911s have fallen below MSRP, the 718 GT4 has hovered close in recent months with most recent sales falling a couple of thousand dollars above or below MSRP depending on mileage. So what gives?
For one, allocations are still hard to come by, but that is true for most other new Porsche Sports Cars. But unlike the 911, the 718 platform is set to phase out the gasoline engine in favor of batteries after this generation. So if you won’t already have an allocation, I suggest you get one.
But let’s say you have your allocation and it’s time to spec your car. Thanks to supply chain uh-ohs you currently can’t option your car like the one we have here today. You want PCCBs? Not an option. Full Sport Buckets? Nope. All of the options that make this a track weapon are not currently available. So if you really really want those yellow brake calipers and body-hugging seats, pre-owned is your only option.
With the availability of cars and popular options in short supply, this GT4 was well-bought at $130k. The buyer got to skip the line, get the options they wanted, and get a free Akrapovic exhaust as icing on the cake. The seller made out here as well as they got to enjoy the car for 1,300 miles and come out losing a few hundred dollars, taxes, and fees.
