Is The Boxster Spyder a Deal?

First-gen Boxster Spyders are really starting to grow on us here, especially as they make their way into the $80k range consistently. Take the lightest Porsche in the model lineup for 2016, add a 375 hp 3.8l flat-six from the Carrera S, and mate it to a 6-speed manual transmission. Sounds like the recipe for an amazing car to me.

The 2016 Spyder above finished in Carrera White over Black leather with Alcantara was mildly optioned with such features as Red deviated stitching, BOSE, Black painted Spyder Design wheels, and a few other goodies. A nice car but not overly optioned out or a crazy MSRP. With 13,000 miles we expected this car to sell in the mid to upper $80s, right where nice examples with over 10k miles have been selling for quite some time now as we see no softening in the Spyder market. And that’s exactly where this car’s final bid landed, at $87,000.

But for whatever reason, the seller thought their car was worth more. How much more? $10,000 more. Save for one example finished in a rare shade of Saphire Blue Metallic, not a single 981 Spyder with over 10k miles has crossed the $90,000 mark. And I don’t see another one happening unless it is a highly specced example or rare shade. This would have been a fair deal for both buyer and seller at $87,000, but it looks like the seller will be keeping their car and parting with their listing fees.
