Reliving The Glory Days of IMSA Cost Less Than You Think

After purchasing this 1987 962 IMSA GTP Prototype in 2019, the buyer did what any sensible collector would do, they mothballed it and held it in a safe until prices rose only to flip it for big money in 2022. Just kidding. They did what any one of us would do, they hit some of the greatest tracks around the world.

So how did they do after three years and track days at the likes of Sonoma, Spa, and the ‘Ring? In 2019 the 962 was purchased for $960,000. Under current ownership, quite a few upgrades were made and maintenance performed to the tune of about $75,000 and an FIA Historic Technical Passport was issued.

Yesterday, the car sold yesterday for the fitting price of $962,000 after much bidding between two parties. Well-bought? Well-sold? Who cares. Well-enjoyed by one enthusiast and will continue to be well-enjoyed by another until the next time we see this 962 on BaT in three years.
