Remove Sunroof. Add $25k. Makes Sense.

What we have here is the highest price paid for a 964 Carrera 2 we’ve seen all year. Sure, a few low-mileage cars have hit $140k and one car even cracked the $160k mark. But this, this 29,000 mile 1993 911 Carrera 2 5sp sold for $185,964 yesterday, because it had all the right options, and lacked all the right options.

You see, our Spotlight car was a ROW (rest of the world) car originally sold out of Japan where you could get a 964 without a sunroof whereas that was not an option here in the US. And the right option this car does have? That would be the color. The 964 looks stunning in the iconic Maritime Blue which was a feature color of the 964 Carrera RS.

But does the lack of a sunroof and a nice shade of blue command such a value? Yes, RoW sunroof-less cars are rare, and Maritime Blue cars are rarer still. And a much more streetable 964 with all the looks of an RS is quite appealing. So appealing that I think if a similar car came up again in the near future, this price would not seem like a fluke.

To whoever imported this car into the US in 2016, well-sold. And buyer, you now have one hell of a car that might look well-bought in a few years as long as you keep the miles semi-reasonable and the car shiny side up.
