Strong Money for a High-Mileage C4S

Over the last two years 997.1 Carrera 4S’ have enjoyed a 25% gain as the rising tide lifted all Porsche badged boats. But like all other “normal” 911s, we’ve seen a flattening, if not softening, of the market as of late with prices hovering at an average of $50,000 and mileage between 40-60,000 miles.

So imagine my surprise when this 106,000-mile 2008 911 C4S 6-Speed sold yesterday on Bring a Trailer for $51,500. When I first saw this auction listing last week, I didn’t give it pause as it was just another high-mileage 911. But maybe I missed something. Perhaps it was modified by a reputable tuner or featured an option list with rare specs.

But no. Although nicely optioned with Turbo wheels, nothing else really stands out on the car and the only aftermarket parts are the stereo, which usually detracts from the price. Add to that an accident on the CarFax and paintwork around the vehicle and I’m still at a loss. I guess at the end of the day two people really wanted a Basalt Black 997 and got caught up in the bidding, as happens in both live, and online auctions.

Could the buyer have bought a lower mileage car for about the same amount of money? Yes. Could they have gotten into a newer 997.2 C4S for that money? Probably not. I do hope you enjoy the drive dear buyer, but this one was definitely well-sold.
