Taycans Take a Nose Dive

To be quite honest I was genuinely surprised to see this Taycan Turbo S sell for $161,000 on Bring a Trailer yesterday. That’s $48,000 less than its $209,330 sticker price. It wasn’t too long ago that his car would have been at or above.

Due to the global supply chain mess and chip shortage, Taycan’s like everything else became hot commodities earlier this year. You see, being an electric car, the Taycan takes double the chips than something like a 911. So you could reasonably assume that you could build two 911 for every Taycan based on chips.

Now, building fewer Taycans would have been fine, if you lived in every other state East of California. But the appetite for Porsche’s electric rocket ship was so ravenous in California that dealers everywhere else were bombarded with calls from The Golden State and sent their wagons West.

But now it looks like that market is softening as this Santa Clara California car has found a new home for less than what would be expected. The seller should have considered selling a bit earlier, but the buyer could probably find an even better deal in a few months once more of these hit the market. Going to call this one a draw.
