The Last of The Manual Turbo’s Fails To Sell
While yesterday’s Sportmatic proved that the rare ‘automatic’ transmission of the late ’60s is a ticket to higher values, the modern market for manuals outpaces slushboxes and PDK. But by how much?
Our Spotlight car, a 2011 911 Turbo Cabriolet with 6-speed transmission is the last of an era for manual Turbo cars as the final 997 Turbo S’ and beyond were only offered with PDK. With a low 10,000 miles, had the car been equipped with a PDK transmission we would have expected bids somewhere around $100-110,000. But with a 6-speed, we expected this car to breeze past $140,000 to somewhere in the neighborhood of $150-160,000.
Unfortunately, the breeze wasn’t blowing and the car failed to meet the reserve at $135,000. A softening market, holiday slow-down, and possibly the Sand Beige interior hurt the chances of this car meeting reserve. I’d expect the selling dealer to keep it in inventory and give her a shot in the spring as this example is definitely worth a bit more.
