Welcome to Miami

As the major auction season winds to a close, RM Sotheby’s is launching its first of what they plan to be an annual Miami sale during Miami’s art week, better known as Art Basel. But will the absence of crypto bros lead to price declines in a collection of “youngtimer” Porsches?

Youngtimer has become what is known as cars from the 80s through the early to mid-2010s, the last of the analog cars. For Porsche, this is where we’ve seen some of the greatest increases in prices over the last few years as online auctions have become more and more prevalent, and those who grew up with these cars on the screensavers and desktops (the new posters) have started to come into their main earning years.

One particular car to watch is the 1988 959″SC” reimagined if you will by Canepa pictured above. Bruce Canepa, the originator of Show and Display and the first registered importer of 959s, has taken the 80s icon and comprehensively and significantly upgraded the car into the Supercar it should have been. This example will be the first example to change hands in public and with an estimate of $3-3.5m, it would set a high water mark for such cars going forward.

Other Porsches offered during the upcoming sale:
