Widebodies Reign Supreme With 993s
The 993 Carrera 4S market has seen tremendous gains in the last two years going from an average sale of around $86,000 to the $126,000 average today. Fueled by the frenzy of owning one of the last air-cooled 911s in a limited trim, mid-mileage cars have hovered right around that average while lower mileage examples are somewhere around “the moon”.
Our Spotlight car, a 1997 example finished in Arctic Silver over Classic Grey has 50,000 miles and sold for $125,000 on Bring a Trailer. The car had a lot going for it: 23 years with the same owner and meticulous maintenance history. But it was also a standard color and had an aftermarket Turbo-style rear wing. Had the car been a more vibrant hue and included the original rear decklid, the seller could have possibly seen a bit more.
How much more? Maybe another $5-10k. But since the seller has owned the car since 1999, I’d say he made out pretty well. Well sold on his part and well bought by the buyer. Definitely a weekend cruiser to enjoy while it appreciates over the coming years.
