Will a Special Tribute to F.A. Porsche Bring All The Money?
To Celebrate 50 years of Porsche Design, Porsche Classic has restored this 1972 911 S 2.4 as a tribute to Ferdinand Alexander Porsche and his founding of the iconic design shop in 1972.
The vehicle is finished in solid black with Classic lateral stripes with a Platinum finish and “Porsche Design” on the sides. The interior is also black but features a special checked pattern in Porsche’s Sport-Tex fabric. Black on black with hints of Grey, just as the professor would have wanted it.
Interestingly, this “S” started life as a basket case 911 T, not as an original S. The Porsche Classic team upgraded the engine and chassis to S specification. No mention of matching numbers but one would assume that they used the original T engine and worked from there.
Will a 1972 911T restored by Porsche Classic to an S 2.4 as an homage to F.A. Porsche bring more than a car restored to an S by any other restoration shop? Over the last few years, I’d say absolutely. But in recent light of a slowdown in the Porsche market, we might see that collectors have tired of all the specials and are hunkering down for other opportunities at the end of this economic cycle.
